Campaign Update

Dear friends,

We are hot on the campaign trail, but I wanted to take a minute to update you on what I have been up to since my last email.  Since publicly announcing my candidacy for the City of Decatur District 2 City Commission seat, I have been all over Winnona Park and Oakhurst (District 2) meeting residents, business owners, etc. and listening to their thoughts on Decatur and its future.  Whether campaigning with my friends and family at the Oakhurst BBQ, Blues and Bluegrass Festival last week (Madsen was pretty cute handing out stickers for me) or meeting new faces around the Oakhurst Village, I am constantly amazed by the diversity and passion the residents of District 2 have for the City.  Each conversation I have makes me more confident in running for public office to represent my neighbors.

Over the next few weeks, I will be at the following events:

  • Tuesday (8/25) – August DBA Meeting
  • Wednesday (8/26) – Winnona Park Traffic Calming Discussion
  • Saturday (8/29) – Better Together Discussion
  • Saturday (8/29) – Solarium Patio Party Fundraiser in Oakhurst
  • Thursday (9/4) – Oakhurst Jazz Night
  • Saturday (9/5) – Decatur Book Festival (volunteering at the Decatur Education Foundation tent from 9:30-noon)

I hope to see some of you at these events, and I encourage you to invite your Decatur neighbors to come out and meet me.  I will send you an email in early September about more events I will be attending in the fall.

I am humbled by the support (financially and non-financially) that I have received from some of you already – Thank you!  As you know, the election is November 3rd so the race is just beginning.  We are looking to sponsor some of the upcoming Decatur events (Madison Avenue Soapbox Derby, Oakhurst Porchfest, etc.) so any campaign contributions are going directly back into the community.  I have made it easy to contribute – mail donations to Friends of Brian Smith for Decatur, 530 Oakview Road, Decatur GA 30030 or donate online at https://politics.raisethemoney.com/bsmith.  Continue to follow me on facebook @ https://www.facebook.com/briansmithfordecatur and my website – http://brianfordecatur.com/

Thank you again for your support and vote,

Brian J. Smith
